As reported earlier on this blog, Phil Keoghan's Ride Across America will be making a stop here in Columbus! Phil is the host of CBS's The Amazing Race, and is making his way across the country to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. We now have some more details on the event to share with you, thanks to Matt Faulkner of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter.
The big day is April 29, 2009, and Phil will be beginning his ride after a rally for the ride and the National MS Society. This rally will take place at the GNC, Polaris Parkway location near Kroger (NOT the location inside the Polaris Mall), from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. Phil welcomes people to ride with him for part or all of the day's 100 mile ride, but please keep in mind that riders will be responsible for getting themselves back to the start point as Phil will be on his way to the next stop, in Elizabethtown, OH. Please fill out the waiver form (PDF File) and bring it with you as you will not be allowed to ride without it!
Phil's ride began on March 28, in Los Angeles, and he's riding 100 miles per day on his quest to cross the country and raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis. With the help of GNC, Specialized, and a host of other fine sponsors, Phil will be hosting rides with people across the country on his way to his final destination in New York City on May 9.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, will also be signing people up for their Pedal to the Point ride on August 15-16.
If you want to support the National MS Society before Phil’s visit to Columbus, the National MS Society invites you to Walk MS on April 18, 2009 at the Columbus Zoo!

People, not speed.
FWIW,
ReplyDeleteLocal residents Brad & Victoria Hunt who appeared on this season of The Amazing Race will be riding along with Phil. Other racers from season 14 may show up as well...you never know.
There's three Elizabethtown's in Ohio, is this the Elizabethtown, due East of Columbus?
ReplyDeleteI would assume so, Joe. He'll be heading toward Pittsburgh with the next day's ride starting in Dennison.
ReplyDeleteI'm coming up tomorrow, but after talking with someone who did it in another city, they do not provide transportation back to the start city. So, I guess I'll be riding out about 50ish miles and turning around. Can you let me know if there's anyone dropping a car in Elizabethtown that I might be able to do the whole ride and catch a ride back with?
ReplyDeleteI rode with him in FTW yesterday and would love to do (part of) the Columbus ride. His pace was crazy fast once outside of town.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have a way to get back after 30 miles or so?
If you're trying to coordinate rides back to the start tomorrow, please use the new post I just added on the front page.
